Educate 1 Child Project is an initiative of Youth Advocates Ghana- YAG, a registered Non Governmental Organization based at Nsawam ,Ghana in West Africa. It is one-to-one Child Sponsorship Program that allows individuals, groups,Churches and corporate bodies the opportunity to bring HOPE into the life of a poor child who due to financial hardship could not attend school . We identify the most needy and poor children who have lost either one or both parents and lack the financial means to complete their education.

The death of one or both parents contributes to breakdown of the family structures, increased school drop outs, and inevitably poverty especially if the deceased parent was the main breadwinner. People in these households continue to live in severe poverty, lacking material and social necessities for growth and development.

Although basic education is in principle free in Ghana, the cost of uniforms, shoes and exercise books is still a huge expense for many rural families. Although there is a policy that uniforms are not compulsory, in practice, teachers put a lot of pressure on pupils to acquire them, and those who don’t have them are stigmatized. Many pupils drop out for this reason. Shoes are a significant expense in areas where people wear mainly flip-flops or nothing at all. In addition to this, the cost of purchasing exercise books for each subject along with other necessary stationery is a significant additional cost.

This is where Educate 1 Child comes in.We believe that today's children are tomorrow's leaders and educating them will have a positive impact on their future and their community's future.Together with our partners,we mobilize funds to buy basic school supplies such as notebooks,exercise books,calculators,uniforms,shoes and pay for P.T.A and other levies.
